“HUNGER GAMES” SEQUEL TO FILM IN HAWAII

OAHU GETS THE NOD AS LOCATION FOR CATCHING FIRE

FILMING ON OAHU BEGINS AS EARLY AS NOVEMBER

After scouting Kauai, Maui, Hawaii island and Oahu, executives for Hunger Games: Catching Fire selected Oahu as a location for four to five weeks of filming beginning as early as November and including preproduction will wrap in Hawaii just before the December Christmas break. Budget for the sequel is in excess of $100 million, sources said…

The first Hunger Games had a worldwide gross of $642 million, including $405 million in the United States. The budget was $78 million…

Here’s the sequel storyline: Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark survived the horrors of Hunger Games against all odds, now living what seems to be their new, rich, peaceful lives in district 12’s victor village. Katniss struggles with her feelings for Gale and Peeta, as well as severe problems with a new head peacekeeper and his squad. But the government of the Capitol is not pleased with Katniss and her performance as the star-crossed lover, claiming that her behavior in the arena may result in an uprising from the districts and, in turn, a new war, with her being the face of it all. President Snow gives her and an unknowing Peeta the chance to fix this during the victor’s tour – a parade through all the districts where the victors get to show themselves to the crowds. Furthermore, as almost a whole year has passed, the 75th annual Hunger Games reaping – this year being the third Quarter Quell – comes with a heart-breaking surprise for Katniss and her fellow district 12 victors…

Amanda Plummer has been added to the sequel. Plummer will play Wiress, a critical ally to main character Katniss Everdeen in Catching Fire. Wiress is a veteran tribute from District 3, drawn back to the games for all-star edition in which past victors are forced to once again compete against each other in a fight to the death…She’s the latest addition to the Hunger Games world, which recently added Philip Seymour Hoffman as Plutarch Heavensbee, the gamesmaster who oversees the Quarter Quell on behalf of the government of Panem…

The film also stars Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Maui resident Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, and Lenny Kravitz…The sequel, directed by Francis Lawrence, is set to hit theaters on Nov. 22, 2013.

Hawaii locations manager Randy Spangler headed the original scout with the film’s producers in June and July…Catching Fire, the second book in The Hunger Games series, also will film in Atlanta, Georgia and Los Angeles…The first film was shot on location in North Carolina…
