The production also plans to use some of the 30 plus Hawaii actors that Berg hired in the first go round….

“They have to be in good physical shape, and comfortable and confident on set. Peter loves to find interesting faces.” Auditions will start in the next two weeks…

THE ANSWERS ARE! “STAR TREK”, “BATTLESHIP” & “HAWAII FIVE-0”

THE ANSWERS ARE! “STAR TREK”, “BATTLESHIP” & “HAWAII FIVE-0”

We’re Backkkkkkk!…It’s been Hawaii Film & Video Magazine production time so that’s what I’ve been doing….

Now let’s talk Hawaii production…

You’ve probably heard the “rumors” about the Star Trek sequel filming in Hawaii…They’re not just “hopeful” rumors…

Paramount has been scouting some Hawaiian islands – Kauai and Oahu specifically – and been asking for location information from other island film offices…Right now it looks very favorably that the Star Trek production will begin two months of pre production late this year then 18 days of filming on Kauai in January…The deal hasn’t been finalized but Hawaii has a lot in its corner with five out of the five writers/producers and director all having strong Hawaii ties…

JJ Abrams (above), creator and executive producer of ABC’s hit series LOST, will executive produce and direct this Star TrekLOST alumnus Damon Lindelof, Bryan Burk, and Carlton Cuse are also on board as producers. And rounding out the Hawaii friendly contingent and writing staff are Hawaii Five-0‘s creator and writers Robert Orci (below right with Hawaii Five-0 producer Peter Lenkov) and his writing partner Alex Kurtzman are also writers on Star Trek

In an interview at the recent Hawaii Five-0 premier, Orci was surprised that anyone in Hawaii knew about this Star Trek…“Yes we are scouting several locations here,” he said. “The location could be earthbound or alien. Hopefully, Hawaii will make the cut. But with all the Hawaii guys (on the production) Hawaii certainly has an advantage in the scouting department doesn’t it”…

Orci said that parts of the new Star Trek have been sketched out. But there’s a lot more work to be done, which would mean the sequel wouldn’t start shooting until sometime in 2012 at the earliest, he said…

Star Trek pre-production on the sequel is currently underway in Los Angeles. The script — written by Alex Kutzman, Roberto Orci, and Damon Lindelof — is expected to be completed by the end of September. There’s still no update on when the sequel will be released. It was originally set for June 29, 2012…Mainland sources say that the film could open in summer or winter  2013…

Meanwhile, Universal’s mega-budget action pic Battleship – with a $200 million-plus  budget coming back to Oahu in November to do a few days of additional photography…The Peter Berg-directed live-action adaptation of Hasbro’s board game…Battleship opens May 18, 2012…

Hawaii Five-0 update: Freddie Kruger whose real name is Robert Englund plays the character Samuel Lee in the current episode being filmed titled “Ka Iwi Kapu”…His last scene is tomorrow at Kualoa Beach Park…Joe Dante is directing…

Taylor Wily (above), Hawaii Five-0’s breakout local actor, is scheduled to do at least 10 episodes this season. Wily, who plays shave ice entrepreneur Kamekona in the show, was in 11 episodes in season one…He was clearly a crowd favorite at the Sunset on the Beach Five-0 premier where every time he appeared on screen the crowd of about 10,000 roared…Wiley is considering opening his own chain of shave ice stands and a plate lunch truck called “Da Shrimp Shack” to mimic his new business on the show…Peter Lenkov, the show’s executive producer, recently tweeted that season two will show some of Kamemona’s dark side…

ABC’s new series The River is working hard to finish its seven episodes before it airs early next year as a mid season replacement. That’s when it will learn if it’s made the cut to shoot a full season here…The River’s river location is in a popular Windward Oahu beach park/valley, but a lot of filming also is being shot at Waimea Falls Park…Brother and sister team Randy and Stephanie Spangler are doing locations…

Speaking of local casting directors, Brent Anbe who spent five yeas at the Hawaii Film Office is doing Hawaii casting for ABC’s The River

TalkStory Productions has wrapped it’s The Short List of five films to be shown at October’s Hawaii International Film Festival on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Dole theaters…The films are funded by TSP and used 100 percent Hawaii crew…Next up for TSP is its biggest project yet, the $70-million feature film Arabian Nights (See poster above). The film’s opening action scene – featuring a monster, a hero, and helped with lots of CGI – will be shot over 10 days on Oahu’s North Shore in December. Arabian Nights then will shoot for eight weeks in China…

An incentive for TSP was that their new partners already had done a lot of business for the film, including “a huge presale,” said Jason Lau, TSP president…Chuck Russell is directing…Arabian Nights will be released in 2013…The films features Kamar, a young and ambitious commander in the King’s army, who sets off on a perilous mission to save the exotic Princess Scheherazade. Along his journey, he befriends the literary icons: Sinbad, Ali Baba, Aladdin, and his Genie…

One by one, Kamar successfully recruits them to join forces and save his love from the evil clutches of Pharotu, the empire’s wicked ruler. Kamar and his legendary band of heroes must risk everything, in order to rescue the Princess, and save the kingdom from Pharotu…No cast members have been hired yet…

Maui has another new film commissioner…Longtime Maui resident and videographer/producer Harry Donenfeld takes over film and television production duties from Brianne Savage who will focus on sports and other entertainment promotions for Maui County…

Uh oh!… Actor and former bad boy Tom Sizemore (above ), 49, who appears on Hawaii Five-0 this season as a police internal affairs investigator, was arrested Tuesday in Los Angeles on an outstanding misdemeanor battery warrant. He posted a $26,000 bail and was released…Sizemore plays internal Affairs Capt. Vince Fryer…

According to news reports, police arrived at Sizemore’s apartment in the 1000 block of Wilshire Boulevard after earlier stopping a man late Monday night for driving a stolen Mercedes-Benz. Because the driver was on parole, that allowed police to conduct a search of his residence so they drove to the Wilshire Boulevard address. Once there, they encountered Sizemore, who said he was the man’s roommate….Narcotics were found in the apartment. Sizemore has had substance abuse issues, including using meth amphetamine…

When police learned that Sizemore was wanted on the misdemeanor battery charge they arrested him…
