ABC’S LOVE AFFAIR WITH HAWAII CONTINUES FLOWING WITH “THE RIVER” SERIES

 

 

 

 

 

 

HAWAII ONCE AGAIN WINS OUT OVER PUERTO RICO

 

 

The adventure-mystery series based in the Amazon jungle will film seven episodes in Hawaii beginning this August and take over the Hawaii Film Studio that had been used by the network’s recently cancelled series Off the MapThe River will be a mid season replacement…

 

 

 

 

 

The pilot for the show was filmed in Puerto Rico as was Off the Map. The series stars Bruce Greenwood as a wildlife expert and TV host who goes missing. Greenwood portrays Dr. Emmet Cole, who travels the world to film a popular nature television show. He goes missing in the Amazon, and his family, friends and crew set out to find him. “The shocking truth about his disappearance is out there, somewhere, just waiting to be discovered,” according to ABC…

 

 

Greenwood starred in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot, Barney’s Version and Meek’s Cutoff…

 

 

 

 

The show’s co-stars are Joe Anderson as Cole’s son, Lincoln, and Leslie Hope as Cole’s wife Tess. Paul Blackthorne, Eloise Mumford (below) and Daniel Zacapa star as Cole’s filmmaking crew who are recording the search, and Thomas Kretschmann is the group’s bodyguard…

ABC’s lease on the Hawaii Film Studio was to expire June 30. According to sources in Hawaii, ABC took longer than usual to make its location decision because of difficulty of finding a river to fit in with the series’ name…

 

The River is from Amblin’s Steven Spielberg, Daryl Frank and Justin Falvey, showrunner/executive producer Michael Green (Heroes, Kings). The pilot was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and produced by ABC Studios.
