CALIFORNIA FILM TAX CREDITS PUMPED $3.8 BILLION INTO THAT STATE’S ECONOMY!

CALIFORNIA FILM TAX CREDITS PUMPED $3.8 BILLION INTO THAT STATE’S ECONOMY!

FOR EACH TAX DOLLAR ALLOCATED, LOCAL AND STATE GOVERNMENTS GOT BACK AT LEAST $1.13 IN TAX REVENUE

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/entertainmentnewsbuzz/2011/06/report-state-film-tax-credits-pumped-38-billion-into-californias-economy.html

A newly released study from the Los Angeles Economic Development Corp. concluded that the state’s tax credit program pumped $3.8 billion into the state’s economy and created more than 20,000 jobs in since 2009….”The first two years of the program have been net positive to the state as far as the fiscal impact,” said LAEDC economist Christine Cooper, who authored the report. “The state is getting more in return than it has paid out.”

The report reportedly is the most comprehensive review to date of the state film tax incentive program, which took effect in 2009. 110 projects have been approved under the program, which offers a 20% to 25% credit on qualified production expenses. Companies can apply the credit to offset any sales or business use tax they have with the state…The LAEDC based its findings on a detailed examination of budgets from nine projects that were allocated $41.4 million in tax credits and included a new TV series, a movie of the week and small and medium-sized budgeted feature films.

Those films produced $847 million in overall spending that qualified for the credit. That included not only direct production expenses, such as wages for crew members, but also secondary expenditures on  restaurants, hotels and construction supplies. The projects generated 4,440 jobs and $312 million in wages, contributing $44.6 million in total state and local taxes, according to the report.

California’s tax credit program is not as competitive as other states’ incentives, allocating only $100 million annually, a quarter of what New York state offers. Advocates said the tax incentives have slowed the pace of runaway production, fueling a 15% increase in overall location shoots in the L.A. area last year…

“BEVERLY HILLS HOUSEWIVES” GOES LANAI

“BEVERLY HILLS HOUSEWIVES” GOES LANAI

The reality show Real Housewives of Beverly Hills made a quick stop on Lanai  last weekend for two days and nights of filming hanging out at the Manele Bay Four Seasons Resort dressed primarily in bikinis and walking the wide sand beach….The production crew arrived midweek with the cast showing up on Friday…

Camille Grammer sauntered around the beach in a black and white caftan before stripping down to a skimpy black two-piece. Brandi Gainville, the newest RHOBH cast member and ex-wife of actor Eddie Cibrian, showed off in a barely-there brown string bikini. Lisa Vanderpump and Kyle Richards looked more age-appropriate in colorful caftans and over-sized sunglasses…

The production was  in Hawaii to film a scene for their upcoming second season. Hawaii played a pivotal (but indirect) role in the first season of RHOBH when Camille alleged that Kyle had dissed her for taking a family vacation to the Hawaii without her then-husband Kelsey Grammer. The two have since patched things up….

There will a LOST reunion of sorts this summer when Hawaii Five-0 starts filming season two on Oahu July 11…That’s because LOST alumnus Terry O’Quinn is joining the cast in a reoccurring role alongside former LOST actor and Five-0 task force member Daniel Dae Kim

O’Quinn’s character will be introduced in the first episode of season two. He’ll be playing a former Navy SEAL commander who trained McGarrett and who also served with Steve’s dad in the Vietnam War. Quinn’s character which probably means he’ll have some thoughts on the elder McGarrett’s murder. will have more of a connection with Alex O’Loughlin‘s Steve McGarrett than with Kim’s Chin Ho Kelly…

Doesn’t look like Quinn”s character is will be the “new team member” executive producer Peter Lenkov has been talking about…His character is described as a strong and stubborn man you would want in your corner when things go south who holds answers to mysteries surrounding the slaying of McGarrett’s parents…

Playboy’s Adventure show Badass will be filming episodes on Oahu June 26-July 3. In the Hawaii episodes models will get to surf, skim board, kite board, beach skate & cliff jump and they be either topless or nude…
