Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tide brought in $90.2 million in weekend sales at United states and Canadian theaters. But the big tickets sales news was the international market where the film brought in an astonishing $260.4 million, the biggest international opening ever. A box office analyst no estimates the the film which cost more than $200 million will generate sales of $850 million to $900 million globally…Higher prices for 3-D showings of Pirates, at 40 percent or more than 2-D tickets in some areas of the U.S., may have hurt the film’s attendance…

 

 

 

In On Stranger Tides, Johnny Depp’s (above relaxing in Kahala) Captain Jack Sparrow is enlisted in a search for the Fountain of Youth. Penelope Cruz co-stars as Angelica, a pirate determined to save the soul of Blackbeard from damnation. Geoffrey Rush returns as Sparrow’s rival, Barbossa, and Ian McShane plays Blackbeard…

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which has received less than stellar reviews by critics, still pulled in some $35 million in ticket sales on its premier day yesterday…If the estimate holds, it will just barely beat Fast Five‘s $34.4 million gross to score the year’s biggest opening day…

 

 

Compared to prior Pirates films, the opening day results shows a definite downward trend domestically. The second Pirates film, Dead Man’s Chest, briought in$55.8 million its first day, while the third movie, At World’s End, took in $42.9 million. According to published reports, the 3-D adventure film still is headed for an opening weekend of around $88 million. Johnny Depp and company overseas take has already earned $92.1 million in three days…

 

 

 

 

Meanwhile, Soul Surfer, the Bethany Hamilton biopic now in its ninth week of release, has ticket sales of $39.2 million in the domestic count. The film cost about $18 million to produce…
