Jerry Bruckheimer, executive producer of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, continued his photo postings on his Twitter account this morning saying “We have found some incredible shoot locations in Hawaii”…The $180 million to $200 million production is now filming on Kauai then moving to Oahu to start filming July 14 for four weeks before shooting in England beginning Aug. 14…

CBS RELEASES “HAWAII-FIVE-0” TEASER

CBS RELEASES “HAWAII-FIVE-0” TEASER

WE’RE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE MCGARRETT!

HAWAII FIVE-0 LINK:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sb-ejxJEgqE

The trailer opens at Kualoa Ranch with a Stryker Force heading deep into the valley with massive explosions and vehicles flipping. But Kualoa isn’t Kualoa in the scene it’s Pohang, South Korea; the execution of  Steve McGarrett’s father by terrorists; the entire cast is introduced in various scenes; North Shore scenes; Waikiki, surfing; Windward Oahu. There are very quick shots reminiscent of the original Five-0 opening: Waikiki overview; fire dancer, King Kamehameha statue; and a variation of the original theme music. Plenty of banter between characters and fighting and shooting, including a “Book ’em Danno” line…

The Hollywood Reporter which has apparently seen a “rough cut screener” – not Hawaii media – declares that the pilot episode is “Not ‘Lost’-great, not ‘Sopranos’-great,” but  “CBS-great”…

“Hawaii evolves the police procedural by a few degrees in a new direction — just enough to feel fresh, but otherwise highly familiar”…”What’s interesting about the pilot of this police drama is that only one scene takes place inside a police station, and that comes at the very end. Otherwise, Five-0 is set in jungles and beaches and scenic highways and seedy apartments…

The reviewer continues: “The cast is attractive (duh) and likable. Alex O’Loughlin cannot pull off some emotional heavy lifting that’s required of him in the pilot’s first act, coming off as merely sulky. His new partner, a wildly gesticulating Scott Caan, turns his role into a scene stealer. Their bromance is the best part of the pilot and thank goodness for it — if this relationship didn’t work, neither would the show. Daniel Dae Kim is here, having strolled over from the set of Lost and doesn’t make much of an impression in the pilot. Battlestar vet Grace Park is also present and somewhat ridiculous as a tough, brawling police cadet who looks maybe 97 pounds when soaking wet — which, as it so happens, is how we’re introduced to her. The pilot has Park in her bikini and she’s later ordered to strip to her underwear, while O’Loughlin has one shirt-changing scene — is this social progress or a roll-back or just to be expected? I don’t know, but I wanted to urge Park to eat a heavy dinner at Olive Garden…

Otherwise, there’s a lot of gunfire, gorgeous scenery, impatient direction and snappy editing…

If Hawaii Five-O doesn’t work on CBS, a network where NCIS draws 19 million viewers a week, I’ll be amazed….

When a handcuffed suspect asks “What kind of cops are you?” McGarrett (O’Loughlin) answers in three words: “The new kind”…Truer words have never been said…

CBS today released an exclusive preview for its new television series Hawaii Five-0 starring Alex O’Loughlin, above, (The Back-Up Plan), Daniel Dae Kim (Lost), Scott Caan (Into the Blue), and Grace Park (Battlestar Galactica: The Plan)…

“PIRATES 4” PRODUCTION BUILDING MEGA SET ON FORMER “LOST” NORTH SHORE LOCATION

“PIRATES 4” PRODUCTION BUILDING MEGA SET ON FORMER “LOST” NORTH SHORE LOCATION

A Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides construction team – mostly local workers – is halfway through 12 weeks of building a massive lagoon set on the banyan tree forest location that was used by ABC’s LOST in numerous scenes…The construction began in mid May and has to be finished by July 14 when Pirates begins filming on Oahu…

Visitors hiking the mile-long path from the Turtle Bay Resort to scenic Kawela Bay have told Reel Hawaii that the “Mermaid Lagoon” set as of last week remains “plywood and 2x4s”…It’s the most extensive and elaborate Pirates set in the Hawaii filming…The lagoon – actually a tank – mostly is being built all above ground and will be filled with water…A Hawaiian blessing was done at the site before construction began, sources said…

The set is 12-15 feet high and includes a series of pools, ponds and small cascading waterfalls. The set will measure about 40 by 60 feet…The set is being built in and around the banyan tree familiar to LOST fans…According to a Los Angeles source familiar with the design, the set will look like it belongs in that location…

The set may be used for the “hero shot” of the film where a deceased Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) meets the Queen of the Mermaids (Gemma Ward) who lives here. This mermaid queen either has or is guarding a Fountain of Youth (?) elixir that can give him his life back…There also is a romantic aspect since the mermaid queen has fallen in love with Sparrow, but Sparrow is or thinks he’s in love with Barbossa’s (Geoffrey Rush) daughter played by Penelope Cruz

T0 build the set, the production is using 20 “artisans’ 40 hours a week for 12 weeks or at $50 an hour about $480,000…

This is the plot according to Disney: “In this action-packed tale of truth, betrayal, youth and demise, Captain Jack Sparrow crosses paths with a woman from his past (Cruz), and he’s not sure if it’s love–or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s using him to find the fabled Fountain of Youth. When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (Ian McShane), Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard or the woman from his past…

The scene is the second one to be filmed on Oahu and at this point scheduled to shoot July 19 for five days, a Kauai source said…

At this point the Los Angeles crew – as many as 300 – will be staying at the Marriott Waikiki hotel and shuttled to Pirates three primary Oahu locations: Barber’s Point, Police Beach in Haleiwa, and the Mermaid Lagoon set on Turtle Bay Resort property…The film’s stars and executives likely will stay at the resort…

According to former LOST crew and executivcs, the Turtle Bay Resort charges productions $2,500 a day for shooting on its property and less for preproduction…Turtle Bay officials did not return several messages for information…

“HAWAII 5-0” WILL USE HONOLULU ADVERTISER BUILDING AS SOUND STAGE AND OFFICES

“HAWAII 5-0” WILL USE HONOLULU ADVERTISER BUILDING AS SOUND STAGE AND OFFICES

Steve McGarrett and company are moving into an empty warehouse behind The News Building at Kapiolani Blvd. and South St, most recently the home of  the Honolulu Advertiser and former home of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin…CBS made the announcement today…

“It’s an iconic structure for an iconic series, paying tribute to the history and community of Honolulu,” the network said in a statement…

The new Hawaii Five-0 series begins filming the first of 12 episodes on Oahu July 15….Meanwhile, Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides starts filming on Oahu July 14…

Five-0 production executives had a difficult time finding a sound stage and office space for the series after ABC held onto its lease for the Hawaii Film Studio after its hit series LOST wrapped earlier this year…According to crew sources, Five-0 executives were “very unhappy” that the Hawaii Film Studio was not available after LOST wrapped and made their feelings known to state film officials…

The Gannett Company, which owned the Advertiser until its recent sale to the Star-Bulletin, plans to sell the 3.69-acre site which includes a parking lot and two buildings, including the one that will be used as a sound stage.. Gannett has been trying to sell or redevelop the newspaper’s property for five years without finding any takers…

The Advertiser’s headquarters opened in 1929 and cost $500,000 to build. It was designed by architects Emory & Webb in the Beaux Arts-Renaissance Revival style, featuring a grand entrance with a quarried-tile staircase and enameled balusters. That style influenced other famous Honolulu landmarks like city hall and the downtown post office and courthouse…

The building also once housed Hawaii’s first radio station — KGU — and its huge antenna on the roof. A radio reporter broadcast nationwide a description of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 from the top of the news building…The city assessed the value of the property at $16.5 million last year…

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides producer Jerry Bruckheimer

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides producer Jerry Bruckheimer is so stoked about filming on Kauai that began this week he’s even sending out set photos from shooting at Honopu beach along the Na Pali coast…

Bruckheimer shot this rainbow from a helicopter before landing at Kalalau Valley then being jet skied to nearby Honopu on Monday saying “This beautiful rainbow seems to be a sign of good fortune as P4 gets underway in Hawaii”…
