TIME TO CHEER! A legislative bill that would have transferred the duties and responsibilities of the Hawaii Film Office from the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism to the Hawaii Tourism Authority and eliminate its overseer’s position now held by Georja Skinner, director, Creative Industries Division, has failed…That’s good news BUT while Skinner’s position wasn’t eliminated it also was funded…

To maintain that position with or without Skinner, funds are going to have to be found…

EDITORIAL COMMENT> Is it just me but wasn’t it idiotic to think of “reorganizing” the Hawaii Film Office again after the December shakeup?…And doing it just before one of the biggest films in Hawaii’s history – Pirates of the Caribbean IV -is about to spend at least eight weeks in the state – Oahu and Kauai – and some $90-million filming…Not to mention the possible CBS series remake Hawaii Five-0…Then there’s that unimportant $150-million Universal Pictures feature Battleship slated to begin shooting in November…What were these legislators thinking?…Ya think that just maybe some behind the scenes politics were involved in this legislative mess…

Meanwhile on Maui, Adam Sandler‘s Just Go With It comedy wraps a week of filming at the Seawatch Restaurant at Wailea with Sandler, co stars Jennifer Anniston, Nicole Kidman (left, right, and below), model Brooklyn Decker and sports radio host Dan Patrick (who portrays a waiter) in most every scene…

A large tiki bar is being built on the rocky point fronting the Grand Wailea Resort where filming begins Monday for three days before moving to the beach. Believe it or not it will be Aniston’s first venture to the beach since arriving on Maui abut two weeks ago…After that there’s at least two days of beach scenes at the Grand Wailea Resort beach…

For last week’s luau scene at the Grand Wailea, the production used 300 extras. This week extras casting director Rachel Sutton – formerly of ABC’s LOST – and company have cast cast another 200 plus. By the end of filming just on Maui the production will have employed close to 1,000 extras except for the 50 SAG members from Oahu. The rest are all Maui locals… About 1,800 hopefuls audtioned for the extras role…The production is doing its best to use them all…

Oahu-based stylist Paulette Crammond worked on the film for three days…
