SANDLER’S “JUST GO WITH IT” SMOOTH SAILING ON MAUI

SANDLER’S “JUST GO WITH IT” SMOOTH SAILING ON MAUI

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN SEQUEL TO FILM
FIRST ON KAUAI IN LATE JUNE THEN ON OAHU.

Adam Sandler‘s (above left) Just Go With It feature also starring Jennifer Aniston (center), and Nicole Kidman (right) is in full production in Wailea where the first week of filming was all at the Grand Wailea Resort with scenes in the lobby, a gift store, and three nights on the beach fronting the hotel for an elaborate luau scene…

I spent a day hanging out with crew watching filming (and dodging security). Crew had nothing but praise for Aniston as a “total pro” showing up knowing her lines, friendly with extras and stand ins, and excited hotel guests…The crew also “love” Sandler who a production source said  “gets the job done and makes it fun for everyone”…

This is the largest production on Maui in years if not ever. Maui Film Commissioner Benita Brazier this year alone has had two major films shot on the Valley Isle, including Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter in January and last year The Tempest with Helen Mirren on Lanai…

On the little time off Aniston has had since arriving on Maui a week ago, the actress has been working out every morning in the Four Seasons Resort gym pretty much dominating the Stairmaster and treadmill…Aniston, Sandler, Kidman with hubby Keith Urban, and musician Dave Matthews are staying at the Four Seasons Resort Wailea next door to the Grand Wailea Resort…Director is Dennis Dugan (below) who also helmed Sandler’s previous film You Don’t Mess with the Zohan (2008)…

Just Go with It finishes the luau scene tonight and then on Monday shoots at one of Wailea’s premier restaurants, The Seawatch Restaurant at Wailea which, sources said, has been rented by the production for a week for several day’s filming…

The production is using some 300 extras while filming six-plus weeks on Maui then moving to Kauai for three weeks filming…

Director Rob Marshall’s upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is expected to begin filming on Kauai the third week in June with preproduction already begun on the Garden Island…The cast will be staying at the recently launched uber luxurious St. Regis though mega star Johnny Depp (above)n is staying in a private home…Crew is expected to stay at the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club where the film’s production office is already set up then on Oahu set up shop at the Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Club…Interestingly, Disney is also considering the Turtle Bay Resort property on Oahu to shoot for one week in July…

According to a Kauai production official, Pirates will be in preproduction and filming on the island for eight weeks then moving to Oahu for about the same time…Walt Disney Picture executives and Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle earlier this year when announcing the Pirates filming here said the production will spend about $86 million in Hawaii…If Kauai just gets half of  that or $43 million, it will be the second most production revenues ever spent on the island after Ben Stiller’s mega hit Tropic Thunder which filmed for 10 months there in 2007 generating $68 million, said Art Umezu, Kauai Film Commissioner…

Up and coming British actor Sam Clafin has been added to the cast as the young male lead playing opposite Depp…Claflin plays  the key role of Philip, a youthful missionary, who get’s caught with Depp’s Jack Sparrow searching for the Fountain of Youth…

Astrid Berges-Frisbey (above) also has just been cast as Syrena, a beautiful and alluring young mermaid encountered by Sparrow…

Umezu earlier this week remind Reel Hawaii that James Cameron and a crew filmed a small section of Avatar on Kauai. “And some actors came over three years ago to learn how to walk in the jungle,” Umezu said…(Sandler had about 30 crew scouting the Kauai this year, Umezu said.)…

George Clooney and The Descendants have been on Kauai for a week filming in and around Hanalei Bay and two days at the historical Tahiti Nui restaurant (above) in downtown Hanalei…Descendants will film two more weeks on Kauai before returning to Oahu for another three weeks filming…

Waterman and Kauai resident Laird Hamilton (above) did a cameo with Clooney…

Speaking of LOST, the production has its wrap party tomorrow 5-9 p.m at the Kahala Resort at the Plumeria Beach House. According to sources, the entire cast including original actors filmed last week for the finale…

Chef Robert Irvine (above LEFT) of Dinner: Impossible is back in Hawaii on a mission to feed the LOST cast and crew…Irvine is “stranded” on the deserted LOST location set of Papailoa Beach (PoliceBeach) in Haleiwa…Using food found on the beach and minimal cooking supplies, and with the help of Executive Chef Jon Matsubara of The Royal Hawaiian Hotel, Irvine must figure out a way to quickly create a delicious meal for 90 hungry Hollywood types before his time runs out….

The show airs May 19, 7 p.m. on the Food Network, Oceanic Cable 60/Digital 321…The Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau partnered with Starwood Hawaii to assist with the on-island filming of Dinner: Impossible’s LOST Hawaii episode…

  1. Tim, How lucky you are to get to hang around those filming casts/crews. If you get in the LOST wrap party take lots of neat pictures. It will be the last LOST wrap party ever.

    Aloha Ann
