HAWAII FIVE-0 BURIES STEVE MCGARRETT’S FATHER AT PUNCHBOWL

Heidi Montag has been cast in Adam Sandler‘s Hawaii bound comedy Just Go With it which is her first film…Montag starts filming on Monday in Los Angeles but whether she’s coming to Hawaii remains unknown…

What we do know is she will do a cameo role in the Sandler/Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy. The move also features Sports Illustrated model Brooklyn Decker and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman….

CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 pilot spent Monday and Tuesday filming at the old United States Post Office building on Richards Street which will be the location of Steve McGarrett’s Hawaii State Police headquarters – photos to come – then headed to the National Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl on Thursday. That’s where the production shot the scene of McGarrett’s father’s funeral who in the script was killed by a Chinese gang. The new Steve McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin) wore his U.S. Navy uniform (see photo) and in the tumultuous scene is accompanied by his blonde sister Mary Ann McGarrett played by Taryn Manning (also in photo)…

A true friend of the Hawaii production has died.

Bret Johnson, of Torrance, CA, died March 5, in Redondo Beach CA. Bret was instrumental in bringing the initial Jurassic Park film to Hawaii followed by Blue Crush…Johnson was born in Torrance, CA on August 14, 1958 and had resided in the South Bay for the last 51 years. Johnson, a CPA, was senior vice president of physical production at Universal Pictures. He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Jennifer; as well as his three children, Fallon, Dustin and Dylan….

His family was his passion, his motivation for success in life derived from his deep love for his wife and children. He is also survived by his mother, Geraldine (Dan) Medrano; his father, Jack (Linda) Johnson; his brother, Darren (Nancy) Johnson; and his mother-in-law, Mary Coleman…

Bret had a passion for fly fishing, sports and the outdoors. The memorial service was held yesterday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Redondo Beach….

Aloha Bret, you will be missed…

SOUL SURFER WRAPS SATURDAY

The cast is full. Jean Smart (above) will play Hawaii Governor Pat Jameson in CBS’ updated Hawaii Five-0 pilot in the only character to whom Steve McGarrett has to answer. Smart most recently won an Emmy for Samantha Who, and was twice nominated for her performance as First Lady Martha Logan on Fox’s 24…

In the script Smart’s character is from Hawaii, has a “Washingtonian’s backbone” and is a completely honest politician…

Hawaii Five-0 filmed Monday and today at the USS Missouri Memorial on Ford Island and tomorrow will be at the old post office on Richards Street…The old post office is the office of the Hawaii State Police where McGarrett is based…

Book ‘em Scotty!

With just a few days before filming of the Hawaii-Five-O pilot begins Monday on Oahu, the final member of the team has been hired… The crucial role of  Danny “Danno” Williams will be taken on by actor Scott Caan (above and below), son of actor James Caan. This “new” Danno is a recently divorced father who transfers from the Baltimore Police Department to Hawaii to be close to his daughter.  His partner in Five-0 is Steve McGarrett, played by Alex O’Loughlin…Also on the team is LOST’s Daniel Dae Kim as Detective Chin Ho Kelly, Taryn Manning plays Mary Ann, McGarrett’s younger sister, and Battlestar Galactica‘s Grace Park as Kono Kalakaua, a new Hawaii State Police recruit just graduated from the police academy and the niece of character Chin Ho Kelly…

Caan has appeared in HBO’s Entourage as a competitive co-worker of Eric at a Hollywood management firm and in all three of the Ocean‘s movies…Caan will be a guest star on Five-0 because of his commitment to Entourage but then transition into the series as a regular if the pilot is picked up to series…

NICOLE KIDMAN IN CAMEO?

As previously noted in Reel News, Columbia Pictures has cast Nicole Kidman, model Brooklyn Decker and Dave Matthews in supporting roles for the Adam Sandler/Jennifer Aniston romantic comedy now called Just Go With It, previously known as Pretend Wife…

According to sources, Kidman who plays Rea Ann Devlin will  take an uncredited comedy role like her former husband Tom Cruise did in Tropic Thunder…Decker, who’s on the 2010 cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, will play Sandler’s love interest…Matthews is reteaming with Sandler for the third time…

Just Go With It has Sandler, playing a plastic surgeon named Patrick recruiting Aniston (Palmer) to pose as his soon-to-be-divorced wife and her kids to pretend to be his fake family…He does this to woo his love interest played by  Decker….Dennis Dugan is directing…

Filming starts this month in Los Angeles before shooting begins in early April on Maui for seven weeks then on Kauai for four weeks…Some Oahu filming is being considered for a dolphin scene at Sea Life Park…Release date is Feb. 11, 2011…

Sony Pictures Soul Surfer bio pic about shark attack victim Bethany Hamilton made a one-day trip to Kauai leaving late Tuesday afternoon after its North Shore, Oahu shoot. The guerilla-sized crew, including director Sean McNamara shot in and around Haena on Kauai’s North Shore…Some filming was hampered by rain… The group returned to Oahu’s North Shore last night to their production offices at the Turtle Bay Resort…
