RENOVATED USS MISSOURI MAY APPEAR IN U’S “BATTLESHIP”

JUST IN: The historical USS Missouri which has been in dry dock at Pearl Harbor for nearly three months is being considered for a supporting roll in Universal Studio’s $150-million mega special effects flick Battleship…


Missouri sources said that an Oahu production company will be hired by Universal Studios for the Jan. 7 filming using two teams of photographers to capture the vessel coming out of dry dock and sailing to the Pearl Harbor entrance then returning to its docking pier…


The key shots that Universal wants is an aerial shot of the ship being towed and a photo team on aboard the ship shooting “some real life video that may be enhanced later on,” a USS Missouri spokesperson said.  “This is a unique opportunity to film a battleship underway”…


It’s also exactly the kind of publicity that the USS Missouri Memorial Association was hoping for during the drydocking. Just before the Missouri went into drydock officials publicized for production companies to have access to “this amazing visual opportunity” with advance notice. The ship most recently was featured in Disney’s epic film Pearl Harbor directed by Michael Bay as well as Under Siege starring Steven Segal and in an episode of NBC’s ER…While in dry-dock the Missouri under went a $10-million general maintenance and preservation repairs…


The Missouri is 887 feet long, 209 feet from keel to mast, and weighs from 45,000 tons (unloaded) to 58,000 tons (full load). Today, the Battleship Missouri Memorial serves as a memorial and historic attraction in Pearl Harbor. The Missouri sits 1,000 feet from the USS Arizona Memorial…


Logistics are currently being worked out with the U.S. Navy, the Pearl Harbor harbormaster, base security and other ships’s schedule…Universal’s $150-million Battleship is expected to begin three months of filming in August on Oahu…
