TNT’S “WEDDING DAY” MAKES COUPLE’S DREAM WEDDING COME TRUE ON MAUI

Southern California residents Tyra Moe and Richard Hidalgo received the destination wedding of their dreams on Maui last September and TNT’s new reality show Wedding Day, a Mark Burnett/Dreamworks Production, captured the couple’s romantic journey in a one-hour Hawaii episode that airs Saturday, Aug. 8 at 6 a.m. HDT…The show features the Maui wedding and a special visit to Kaua‘i…Tyra is a firefighter and Richard is a lifeguard; both in Imperial Beach, CA…Their lifestyles are so chaotic and demanding they had conceded their dream wedding plans to a backyard barbecue to tie the knot. However, Wedding Day and Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau were  instrumental in bringing the show to the islands…The surprise began in San Diego when Wedding Day hosts Alan Dunn and Diann Valentine gathered with Tyra and Richard’s family and friends to tell the couple they were heading to Hawaii for a week

…The couple and 50 guests were whisked away to the San Diego Airport to board a Hawaiian Airlines flight to Maui. On Maui Tyra and Richard checked into the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort and Spa…The couple then met the team who were creating and coordinating the event, led by Carolee Higashino, owner and president of A White Orchid Wedding that included Asa Flowers, Café O’Lei Catering, Envisions Entertainment, and Jamie Clark of Pacific Design Group…

In the days leading up to the wedding, Tyra and Richard visited the Maui Ocean Center, Alii Kula Lavender Farm, a helicopter ride with Blue Hawaiian and did stand-up paddle boarding. They also made a day trip to Kauai to reunite with friends and for some ziplining with Outfitters Kauai. Construction of the show’s “signature gate” for the bride’s entrance was built by the couple’s fathers and groomsmen in the wedding party.

The wedding ceremony and reception was in West Maui in a garden overlooking the ocean within a private estate, featuring songs by the Kamehameha Schools Children’s Chorus. The reception was at the Olowalu Plantation House…Guests enjoyed a traditional lüau show by Tihati Productions and award-winning Hawa‘i songstress Raiatea Helm singing for the first dance.

SOUL SURFER REDUX: The film will be made this year but when remains the big question. Hawaii sources now say the start date is “this fall”, reluctant to specify an exact date which had been done before…Meanwhile, producers have decided to do a “worldwide star search” for the girl to portray Kauai surfer Bethany Hamilton “which will rival the Scarlett O’Hara search done for the Gone with the Wind search of the 1930s. We’re going to find a breakout star and put our money into the ensemble cast surrounding the breakout star”… This is in lieu of not pursuing the oft mentioned big name actress who had been on the wish list for some time…To finish the film either before Thanksgiving or Christmas, pre production has to start either Aug. 24 or Aug. 31 with filming to begin either Oct. 5 or Oct. 12…”We’re wrapping before Christmas,” a Soul Surfer producer emphasized…
