Tropic Thunder

Paramount Pictures has just released several new photos from the upcoming Ben Stiller summer war comedy Tropic Thunder. As you probably know it’s a comedy about five actors who go on location and find themselves relying on their boot camp experiences when they get stuck in a real war-like situation. The film stars Stiller, Jack BlackRobert Downey Jr., Brandon T. Jackson and Jay Baruchel as a group of actors shooting a Platoon-esque war film in the jungle…

Reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Several reviewers have said that the best part of the film not being used in promotions is Tom Cruise‘s scenes that were shot in Los Angeles. He plays a vulgar studio chiefStiller, in an interview with The Los Angeles Daily News, said he was inspired to make a war satire by the film Platoon because its director, Oliver Stone, dismissed him at a casting meeting for the movie telling the young actor “You’re cute.”

Tropic Thunder easily is the most expensive film ever shot on Kauai with  a production budget of about $90 million and tens of millions of dollars in marketing money. As much as $65 million was spent on the Garden Isle. Stiller’s per pic fee is about $20 million. The actor’s earnings from  June 1, 2007 to June 1, 2008 reportedly was $40 million…Cruise receives about $30 million a film but took a substantial cut to appear with buddy Stiller…
