Damon & Soderbergh To Bring The Informant to Oahu in June

UPDATE: Done Deal! Warner Bros.’ The Informant starring Matt Damon and directed by Stephen Soderbergh (Ocean’s Eleven, Erin Brockovich, Traffic) will film on Oahu for two days the last week of June.

The brief filming will all be at a very rarely used location where the

production also will be based. Pre production begins June 10 for set construction and other advance work. Since Hawaii is the last location for the big budget film, the production for continuity will bring the majority of its crew here though about 25 local crew will be hired. Scott Bakula, (Enterprise, Quantum Leap) plays Brian Shepard, who is Damon’s character Mark Whitacre’s principal FBI contact…Hawaii casting is by Los Angeles-based Rich King Casting which also did local casting on Forgetting Sarah Marshall. The company also cast Ocean’s 11, 12 & 13 starring Damon and George Clooney who is one of the The Informant‘s producers. Other locations include Decatur, Ill. and Los Angeles…The film is based on Kurt Eichenwald‘s 2000 book, “The Informant“, the story of Mark Whitacre (Damon), a rising star at Decatur’s Archer Daniels Midland in the early 1990s who wound up blowing the whistle on the company’s price fixing tactics. As the highest-ranked executive to ever turn whistleblower, Whitacre secretly gathered hundreds of hours of video and audio over several years to present to the FBI. But Whitacre’s good deed dovetails with his own major infractions and struggle with bipolar disorder…
