Audrina Patridge Causes a Stir; “Indy” Scores in Cannes

UPDATE May 18: Is it The Reef or Into The Blue 2The Reef? Wire stories and mainland blogs have been calling it the latter. Crew and producers on Oahu where the entire low-budget film is being shot until June 6 are calling it The Reef but saying the story line is in the same genre as Into The Reef. So there you go…

Meanwhile, Audrina Patridge (The Hills) who plays the testicle-busting character Kelsey, created quite a paparazzi stir last Thursday and Friday when the production filmed two days on Waikiki Beach. A half-dozen photogs took hundreds of shots of Patridge and the rest of the perfect-body cast. Oahu the last month with the Heather Locklear film Flirting with Forty and now The Reef has gotten more pap attention than celebrity packed Wailea, Maui. A guerilla photog apparently did charge within a few feet of Patridge for a shot before security guards forced him away. With Hawaii’s production industry steadily climbing as well as fees for exclusive photos increasing the assault likely will get even more aggressive…

The straight to DVD The Reef by MGM Home Entertainment and Bluewater Prods. will be released in about a year…

The film revolves around Sebastion (played by Chris Carmack) and Dani (Laura Vandervoort), a couple hired as professional divers to search for a supposed hidden treasure of gold. Clue: Think terrorism not Fort Knox. The divers eventually realize that their wealthy employers have a different plan…

Patridge’s character is an attention psycho named Kelsey who requires her boyfriend Avery – a sexist punk diver-surfer – to do as he’s told or hit the road. In a scene shot last Thursday when Kelsey catches Avery hitting on a girl at the beach she tells him:

You wanna be with me, you better act like it. Not just in the bedroom, now just when we’re together – everywhere twenty-four-seven. Anything less and I gotta figure you’re just not that into me, I better be exploring other options. And trust me, I have options…And if I ever hear you talking about some other girl and what you’re gonna do to her, I swear, I will snap my fingers, and turn you into a sexual suicide. Forget bonediving lessons, you won’t get a date – you won’t get a look – once I get thorough spreading the word. You wanna feel the touch of a woman again, you’re going to have to fly back to mommy’s house in Fresno. It’s insulting sweetie. And you know, I’m the wrong woman to insult”…

The original screenplay was written by Mitchell Kapner who wrote most recently Romeo Must Die(2008), and The Whole Nine Yards (2000). Script revisions were done by Michael Weiss who wrote Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D (2008); and the Butterfly Effect 2 (2006)…Several days of some very serious diving scenes filming begins next week…
